ABOUT THE IMAGES: The creator of this website has made every effort to provide beautiful, educational, and informational images for illustration. Some of the pictures are original works of art created by the website owner. A huge bulk of the images come from scans from old books whose copyright has expired, in the possession of the website owner. Most of the rest of the images were obtained from miscellaneous sources which have kindly allowed their images to be used under certain conditions, many from Wikemedia Commons. Every effort has been made to use these images legally and as intended by those who have made them available. All the images are accounted for in the list below along with an explanation of why HellenicGods.org can use them.

HOW TO USE THIS PAGE:

1) Click on any image anywhere on this website that you would like information about. The image will appear in a new window.

2) Find the name of the image.

3) Look up the image on one of the alphabetical pages based on the first letter of the title of the image. Scroll down the list and find the image. You will see the images listed in alphabetical order along with information pertaining to their copyright status, who shot the picture or authored it in some way, etc.. In some cases you will also find interesting data about the image that may or may not appear elsewhere on the website.

4) By clicking on the link at the beginning of the entry, you can view the image.

Sphinx-Σφίγξ.jpg Greek Sphinx, metal casting mounted on two successive wooden bases. 10" tall including the bases; lower-most base is 8" x 4". In mystic Hellenismos, the Sphinx represents the deified soul. The Greek Sphinx is female because the soul is thought of in the feminine, but she has the body of a lion and the wings of the eagle, both symbols of Zefs (Zeus), whose influence is always present regardless of which Olympian pair is responsible for the deification.

Tafran Oil Lamp.jpg - The Tafran (from ταῦρος, bull) oil lamp is cast bronze. It has two openings for wicks and between these is the head of a bull with marvelous horns, most likely representing Zefs (Zeus; Gr. Ζεύς). The cap of the lamp has a female bust at its pinnacle, perhaps Ira (Hera, Gr. Ἥρα). Age unknown, but very old with a deep patina. It is quite heavy for its size as the casting is completely solid except for the oil receptacle and holes leading to the wick-openings. Size: 3" across the two wicks-openings, 4" front to rear, 4" tall. ZAGREFS ENTHRONED - Painting of Zagrefs (Zagreus) enthroned by Zeus. At the feet of the God is a calf. Zeus is represented by the snake for he seduced Persephone in the form of a serpent. The Phoenix is representative of the death and transformation of Zagrefs. The horns of the God are the Æther behind which is the Sun.
