SORORES? (Sisters?)

SUMMARY: This testimony presents two lines from a poem of Moschus which refer to the daughters of Oeagrus, which, if taken literally, means that Orpheus had sisters.

ORPHIC CRITICAL TESTIMONY 28.

[Theocr.]

“But say once more to the daughters of Íagros (Οἴαγρος), say to all

the Nymphs of Vistonía (Βιστονία), ‘The Dorian Orphéfs (Ὀρφεύς’) is dead!’ ”
