ORPHIC CRITICAL TESTIMONY 237

Ἱεροκλῆς (420 C. E.) in Βιβλιοθήκη τοῦ Πατριάρχου Φωτίου Α´ 214 p. 173 a 13 ss. Photii Bibliotheca August Immanuel Bekker:

“The fourth (of the books On Providence) tries to bring to agreement the so-called oracles and the priestly laws to the opinions of Plátôn (Πλάτων); and the fifth book attaches to Orphéfs (Ὀρφεύς) and Ómiros (Ὅμηρος), and so many others before the appearance of Plátôn, ideas concerning the above-mentioned Platonic philosophy.”
