SUMMARY: This testimony provides us with two opinions concerning the time in which Orpheus lived: the first opinion states that he lived during the time of Gideon; the second opinion denies this, and claims that Orpheus lived during the times of Troy.

ORPHIC CRITICAL TESTIMONY 21.

~ Goerg. Cedren. I 110 Bekk. ~ Suid. s.:

“But shortly after, Gædæón (Γεδεών) became the leader of Israel. Whereas (living) at that time was Thrakian Orphéfs (Ὀρφεὺς), the Odryssian (Thrakian) lyrist, a wise and famous poet.”

(trans. by the author)

|76,6 Dind.

“The erudite chronicler Timóthæos (Τιμόθεος), who disclosed all this, related that Orphéfs himself, before such great times, said that a consubstantial triad fabricated all things.”

(trans. by the author)

“But in addition to these, (I will refute) Timóthæos (Τιμόθεος) who says that Orphéfs (Ὀρφεὺς) was from the time of Gædæón (Γεδεών); so they do not speak rightly concerning these times, but falsely, without wisdom , in a forced logic, and even contrary to themselves. For he showed that Ómiros (Ὅμηρος) came not long after the times of Troy and that Orphéfs is not contemporaneous with Íraklís (Ἡρακλῆς).”

(trans. by the author)

“For how could Línos (Λίνος), having already been killed, also have educated Orphéfs (Ὀρφεὺς) later? It (ed. his education) especially could not be said (ed. to have occurred) before he was slain. In fact Orphéfs was not contemporaneous with Íraklís (Ἡρακλῆς), but he lived in the times of Troy, as we have shown.”

This logo is the principal symbol of this website. It is called the CESS logo, i.e. the Children of the Earth and the Starry Sky. The Pætilía (Petelia, Πετηλία) and other golden tablets having this phrase are the inspiration for the symbol. The image represents this idea: Earth (divisible substance) and the Sky (continuous substance) are the two kozmogonic substances. The twelve stars represent the Natural Laws, the dominions of the Olympian Gods. In front of these symbols is the seven-stringed kithára (cithara, κιθάρα), the the lyre of Apóllôn (Apollo, Ἀπόλλων). It (here) represents the bond between Gods and mortals and is representative that we are the children of Orphéfs (Orpheus, Ὀρφεύς).

PLEASE NOTE: Throughout the pages of this website, you will find fascinating stories about our Gods. These narratives are known as mythology, the traditional stories of the Gods and Heroes. While these tales are great mystical vehicles containing transcendent truth, they are symbolic and should not be taken literally. A literal reading will frequently yield an erroneous result. The meaning of the myths is concealed in code. To understand them requires a key. For instance, when a God kills someone, this usually means a transformation of the soul to a higher level. Similarly, sexual union with a God is a transformation.
