τμῆμα 40 Σιμωνῖδου (PLG III4 p. 408):

τοῦ καὶ ἀπειρέσιοι

ποτῶντο ὄρνιθες ὑπὲρ κεφαλᾶς,

ἀνὰ δ᾿ ἰχθύες ὀρθοὶ

κυανέου ἐξ ὕδατος ἅλλοντο

καλᾶι σὺν ἀοιδᾶι.

(Of Orpheus):

“And countless birds fluttered over his head, and fish sprung straight up out of the dark blue water together with his beautiful song.”
