SUMMARY: This fragment from Tzetzes quotes a single line from the Ephemerides.
The transcribed words precede the beginning of fr. 257; then alleged to follow after fr. 48:
“In the sixth day* with its rosy-fingered, silver-footed dawn.”
(trans. by the author)
*Translator’s note: LSJ translates ἠριγενής as “a day” and sites Orphic Fragment 275, but it also says that it is the equivalent of ἠριγένεια, an epithet of Ἠώς (Dawn) which means “early-born,” “child of morn,” but in later Epic poetry came to mean “a day.”
Herm. 511 n. 33; Christian Lobeck Aglaophamus I 597.
